Knowledge is light (P.T.A. Chairman’s speech 2005/2006 YEAR BOOK)
It might not be surprising that the subject of my discussion admonition is centered on the school motto which says knowledge is light. The power of knowledge in every aspect of life cannot be overemphasized.
You must be wondering what light has to do with knowledge, light gives illumination, it gives insight into the content of a dark tunnel and as clear picture of things become apparent, while things not known are then discovered.
From the fore going, it is a fact that acquisition of knowledge will make one to be sought for. Knowledge sets you fee from poverty, from poor health, career failure and many other problems. It is a common proverb that you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free. It is a general fact that the quality of your life cannot be better that the quality of your knowledge. Hence my dear students, I will like to admonish you to change your thoughts with a view of altering the direction of your life for a better future.
We must appreciate the fact that mind power is superior to muscle power. What you learn is what determines what you earn, what you know more than others is what keeps you ahead of them; and what determines what you know are the books you read, the people you associate with and the educational exposure that you get. There is something called the “Law of Integrative Complexity” it states that in every group of individuals, the person who can absorb, integrate and apply the greatest quantity of essential information will eventually dominate all other individuals within the group. Therefore for one to excel where other fail, one must go the extra mile in the acquisition of knowledge.
People who rise to the top in any organization (e.g. Generals, Rear Admirals, Medical Directors, Bank Directors, Rectors, and Vice Chancellors etc.) are those who have unbridled penchant for updating and acquiring knowledge.
One of the greatest billionaires in the world, Bill Gates never had oil wells but specialized in information technology. So while people are thinking of making money from petroleum or just having myopic perceptions, you ought to be different, attending seminars, reading books, gathering analyzed information and taking effective decisions from the information analyzed.
Permit me at this juncture to touch on the activities of the P.T.A. Executives. It is gladdening to mention to you that the second edition of the school YEAR BOOK has been published. It will be appreciated if we are all grateful to the past P.T.A. Executives for their thoughtfulness in introducing the valuable YEAR BOOK. It is really a big kudos to them.
The present P.T.A. had also introduced the Id-El-Fitri fun fair in order to bring our wards/children together. We also appreciate their joining us during the Ramadan period, the introduction yielded positive results. With sincere gratitude to the ALMIGHTY ALLAH, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful, I wish to express my appreciation first and foremost to ALLAH, the Headmistress, teaching and non-teaching staff for all their efforts to impart knowledge to our children/wards, may ALLAH who is the source of all knowledge and intelligence replenish their repertoire. MR. ADEYEMI (P.T.A. Chairman)
WHO
IS AN IDEAL PARENT?
An ideal parent is someone who does everything within his power to ensure that his children are not denied their basic rights such as education, medical are, good clothes, food and shelter.
There are parents in our society who just produce children and do not bother to cater for them. An ideal parent should be able to make provision for the well being of their children. He ensures that the interest of family comes first before any other thing.
An ideal parent should be able to impart good manners into the children, regulate their relationship with people and their conduct in the society. He should set good examples for the children and should guard them from negative external forces and not leave them on their own. He should spend time with his kids, this should enable the parent to detect any problem in the child and seek a way of solving it. Because it is not all matters that children feel free to talk about with their parents.
There should be good rapport between the two parties. Child abuse, whether verbally or physically should not take place.
The Ideal parent should not overlook the children’s need because of his or her job.
The mother plays the most important role in the upbringing of the child. It is the duty of the parent to monitor the kind of company the children keep and the kind of clothes they wear. It is their duty to caution the children whenever they go wrong. W should inculcate the fear of ALLAH in them, teach them the way of ALLAH and lead them to the right path.
The Ideal parent also have to educate their children on the moral and even the much avoided sex education, if they do not teach them these things at home, they tend to go out and make mistakes due to the misinformation from their peers.
Finally, a good parent must not fail to rebuke a child’s wrong deeds instead of overlooking or pampering them as this may encourage the child to commit a more punishable offense, which even the parent will not be able to bear.
